Severe Weather Delays Race

On Saturday August 2, 2008 Pit Boss Motorsports and driver Rodney Brooks prepare for Southern Sizzler 125. Temperatures around 100 degrees in the area and approximately 150 degrees on the track the team worked hard to make sure that the car ran smoothly for their driver to prevent overheating, as that was a problem at a past race when temperatures at the track were the same.  During practice the car was on the pace, but struggled with brake bias due to too much rear break. That being a major issue at Dillion Motorspeedway because of the tight turn radiuses. During qualifying sprits were lifted when driver Rodney Brooks turn the fastest lap of the day and qualifying in at 15. While waiting for Southern Sizzler 125 to begin, Rodney and the crew watched Street Stocks and giant black clouds roll in East with it brings large wind gusts and tremendous amounts of rain. During the rain fall PASS officials determined the weather conditions to be too dangerous therefore calling the race and rescheduling for the following day August 3rd at 1:30p.m.

Sunday August 3, 2008 held higher temperatures and very little rubber on the track from all the rain. Causing the track to be a little greasy in turn four.  When the green flag dropped driver Rodney Brooks said that the car was tighter than the previous day and had too much front brake bias. Continuing with the race Rodney was spun out by the hot headed 62 car causing a caution and time to come in a make a few minor adjustments to the car. Returning to the race Rodney ran into more trouble with the number 62 car causing some transmission troubles. Even with the car not shifting correctly Rodney stuck it out until the next caution only coming in the pits to try to fix the problem. After taking care of the tranny problem Rodney realizes that the car will not start, due to a melted MSD wire. The crew fixes the problem and gets Rodney back out on the track a disappointing 3 laps down. That didn’t stop Rodney Brooks; he raced hard the last few laps of the race and finished a comfortable tenth, considering the circumstances. Rodney’s next race is August 30, 2008 at Caraway Speedway in Asheboro, come out and cheer Rodney on as he races for the checkered flag.
